I quite like the Zuk....it has a very...industrious (?) design air about it...like it’s meant to work hard an be put away wet, lol. It was based on FSO Warszawa underpinnings (engine, trans, etc)...with the Warszawa being a Polish clone of the Soviet Gaz Probeda. :)

There was also the ZSD Nysa van in Poland, which was based on Warszawa underpinnings as well!

Both had truck variants too, though Zuk trucks were a LOT more common.

That one isn’t a real truck though, as neat as it is. Somebody just took a van and lopped the back of. You can tell because the body ‘stripes’ continue down the side where the real trucks had completely separate beds.

I love the Zuk, but I would prefer a Polonez Caro if going slightly tuned :P

Oh I see. Thanks, now I’ll never be able to forget that fact. I hope it comes in useful someday lol.

I love that Polonez too.

Was just talking to Borsuq...I am WRONG! Apparently the Zuk truck you linked was actually a real, factory-produced separate bodystyle....VERY unco mmon, but not just a van hack job! They were apparently a sort of ‘narrow’ truck body that they did do a few of! :P

My humble apologies for feeding you incorrect useless trivia :P

That thing would look perfect with a slight lift and somewhat larger, more aggressive offroad tires.

Probably would! They are RWD.

That’s awesome. How do I get one in America?

Hahahaha, jk. I’m sure we can’t get them in America.

Sure you can, you’d have to import one, but the newest ones are 21 years old (they sold them until 1998). Almost all of them would be importable for you to the USA and they are cheap as chips.

Borsuq linked me to this truck variant a bit ago:

$5500 zloty is $1400 US, for the record...so you’d be looking at $1400 plus maybe another $1400 for shipping(?) , plus import fees...that’s it! :D

I have too many automotive project ideas. I need to finish my Volvo, then when it goes I need to settle on one thing to work on . But one of those ideas is definitely importing some weird eastern/euro or soviet car or something. I like the Lada Niva a lot, and also the Fiat Panda, but I would definitely consider something like this!

That said, the biggest problem, which you alluded to, is that for most small, cheap, quirky cars like this (and the ones I mentioned), the import costs can be as much or more than the purchase price. Now granted I would get one for fun, which is by nature impractical, but from a financial standpoint it makes zero sense. I guess I have a lot of thinking to do (and convincing the Mrs.).

I don’t look at it like “the import costs are the same as the purchase costs”...I just look at the total price and say, ‘damn, that’s cheap for a unique vehicle in very good condition!’ :D

The Zuk I shared was supposedly even a one-owner, so that’s a decent price including import fees/shipping!

A FIAT 126p is still top of my list. Would love something else equally weird...currently the Piaggio Ape TM is climbing the list quickly, though they are MASSIVELY slow and I would need a motorcycle license for one here because three-wheeled, but it would be a hoot!
